One of the main output from INSPIRATION H2020 project was the creation of the SOILveR funding plaltform.

This kick-off meeting is the start of the SOILveR pilot call projects.

In the meeting the projects will present themselves, there is room for questions and it will start with the exchange of knowledge between the projects, but also within projects that deal with similar research questions, both nationally and internationally.

Soil and the SDGs: challenges and need for action - 25 November 2019 in Brussels

DG Environment is pleased to invite you to the conference ‘Soil and the SDGs: challenges and need for action’. This event will take place on 25 November 2019 in Brussels.

The conference targets policy-makers, researchers, representatives of NGOs and other stakeholders active in the protection of land and soil. It will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges of soil and land degradation in the EU and the urgent need for action to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. Speakers will include high-level representatives of EU institutions, the European Environment Agency, the scientific community and the UNCCD.

The conference is free of charge but registration is mandatory. Costs related to participation in the event will not be reimbursed.

This day aims to connect the different actors working on the quality of urban soils, to identify positive interactions and keys to successful collaborations. It is co-organized by the POLLUSOLS * project and the Institute for Research in Science and Technology of the City (IRSTV).

Marie-Christine Dictor, National Focal Point of INSPIRATION for France will contribute to the round table.

Under the overarching theme, two major topics are chosen from the INSPIRATION SRA.

Emerging contaminants in soil and groundwater - ensuring long-term provision of drinking water as well as soil and freshwater ecosystem services (IRT 14)
Recognizing the value of ecosystem services in land use decisions (IRT2)

Wageningen University & Research is delighted to invite you to join us at the fourth edition of the Wageningen Soil Conference,August 27 – 30, 2019, the Netherlands. As in previous editions, the aim is to discuss the importance of soils. In the 2019 edition, the focus will be on “Understanding soil functions: from ped to planet”. To do this we will adopt a new style of conference, with traditional conference talks in the mornings, followed by a range of scientific and interactive topic workshops in the afternoons.

Opportunities for soil sustainability in Europe

The European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC) published the 26 September 2018, a policy report on “Opportunities for soil sustainability in Europe”

A multidisciplinary group of European experts has examined the implications of recent scientific research for integrated policy solutions towards ensuring the sustainability of Europe’s soils, and identified many opportunities for policy-makers to safeguard this valuable resource for the benefit of the EU’s citizens.”
