INSIPIRATION bottom-up approach highlighted the need to create long term monitoring and to give free access to data.
Some initiatives already exist to answer to these needs.
With TERENO (Terrestrial Environmental Observatories), Helmholtz has created a network of 4 observatories : of Eifel/Lower Rhine Valley Observatory ; Bavarian Alps / pre-Alps Observatory ; German Lowland Observatory and Harz/Central German Lowland Observatory.
Through the Helmholtz initiative ACROSS, TERENO researchers are helping establish 3 new observatories in Mediteranean region: Picassent Study Site (in Spain), Alento River Catchment (in Italy) and Thessaly Basin (in Greece).
All this data gathered is shared with the larger scientific community through TERENO’s data portal TEODOOR
