INSPIRATION Core Group member Paul Nathanail was part of an EU delegation to China in February to share experiences in soil management. Paul was able to share the emerging priorities from INSPIRATION with colleagues from the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences. Paul presented on case studies of successfully reusing post-industrial brownfield sites and highlighted the fact that land contamination is rarely a major hurdle in reusing such sites. Other factors such as land ownership, infrastructure and gaining the relevant permits usually pose greater challenges than ensuring the land is suitable for its new use.
